Meals on Wheels
Because sometimes a meal means more than you think.
When Senior Connections was founded as the DeKalb Community Council on Aging (DCCOA)
in 1973, we were a Meals on Wheels agency. Providing nutritious, daily meals to
seniors remains a top priority today.
Six different specialized meals—from low-sodium to diabetic—are available to suit
the specific nutritional needs of seniors. Home-delivered meals reduce the burdens
of cooking and traveling to supermarkets for less mobile seniors. Hot or frozen
meals are available, further tailoring the service to meet the needs of our senior
clients.
In fiscal year 2007, Senior Connections delivered 178,004 meals to the doors of
seniors unable to shop for and prepare meals for themselves. Perhaps most importantly,
these essential healthy lunches and dinners are hand-delivered by dedicated, caring
volunteers. For some homebound seniors, these visits are the only contact they will
have with people during the day, marking an invaluable opportunity to check on their
health and condition. That’s when a meal means even more.
