Neighborhood Senior Centers
Because everyone needs friends.
Physical and social inactivity are linked to depression, a leading cause of decline
and death among the elderly, but Neighborhood Senior Center participants don’t show
any signs of slowing down soon! Five Neighborhood Senior Centers serve DeKalb County
adults age 60 and over who are still independent and wish to stay busy in the community.
The centers’ activities focus on health and wellness, providing exercise classes,
nutrition education, and socialization opportunities. Center participants also enjoy
a hot, nutritious midday meal.
Center activities include:
Yoga and Tai Chi
Chair Aerobics
Walking clubs
Cooking demonstrations
Health screenings
Games and activities such as Bingo and Arts and Crafts
Continuing education
Day trips—from shopping expeditions to trips to Macon’s Cherry Blossom Festival!
You’re as young as you feel, and friends always make it more fun!
