All That Jazz
The 2nd annual Senior Prom, “All That Jazz,” was held July 25, 2008 for members
of the DeKalb County Neighborhood Senior Centers. Approximately 200 seniors sold
out the event and were joined by a number of VIPs at an intimately decorated Lou
Walker Center reminiscent of a 1920’s jazz club. As the sounds of the Frank Zimmer
Jazz Quartet tickled attendees’ ears, their tongues were treated to a real taste
sensation concocted by Executive Chef Malika Robins and Sous Chef Shawn Petterson.
After dinner, treats kept rolling as 10 senior volunteers were selected as stand-outs
in their community. Annie Donovan took home the prize, a two-night stay for two
at the Crowne Plaza Ravinia. Door prizes followed and many went home with more than
they came. Of course, it wouldn’t be a Senior Prom without a King and Queen. A couple
from each Center was chosen by fellow members and received tiaras, sashes, crowns,
robes, and trophies in honor of their newfound title: Prom King or Queen. Several
line dances followed and soon everyone was on the dance floor. For all who attended
it was truly a night to remember.
Our Mission:
To maximize independence and enhance the quality of life of seniors
What can we do for you?
A hot, nutritious meal delivered to the door. A new wheelchair ramp to make a sunny
afternoon outdoors assessible once more. A little help with daily tasks goes a long
way toward independence. Providing seniors with the assistance they need to remain
in their own homes as long as possible is what we do at Senior Connections.
