GRANTS TO GREEN
The Community Foundation of Greater Atlanta’s Grants to Green program provides environmentally focused knowledge and funding to strengthen nonprofits. This partnership between The Community Foundation, Southface and Enterprise Community Partners gives metro Atlanta nonprofits the opportunity to renovate or build healthier work places that are energy and water efficient and environmentally efficient. The ultimate goal is to improve a nonprofit organization’s building structure to not only have less of an environmental impact, but also to increase the cost-efficiency of operations, ideally saving more finances to provide more services.
Senior Connections is proud to be a partner in the Grants to Green program.
Senior Connections has always been an innovative organization that is interested in not only becoming a more efficiently run nonprofit, but sharing our outcomes as a model for other nonprofits as well. One such initiative is in our "Going Green."
In July of 2009, Senior Connections was awarded a Grants to Green Assessment. A funding initiative led by the Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta, the Grants to Green Assessment awarded Senior Connections the opportunity to have our operations surveyed regarding energy use. Southface Energy Institute came out and audited our energy usage and building layout in order to guide us in the most optimal ways to go "Green." The report, released in October of 2009, suggested such things as redirecting our lighting layout of certain areas to reflect need, changing plumbing/bathroom fixtures to save water and installing programmable thermostats, to name a few. Incorporating these "Green" suggestions will not only conserve precious resources, but save Senior Connections dollars that can be put back into our senior care programs. Our next step is to apply for funding support from the Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta in order to help implement the "Green" changes.
